President Al Gore.

Well, having not been on my blog for a while, I am now back. With all of the stuff that has been going on recently, a Harris Poll showing Bush's approval down to 29%, The West Wing has just gone off the air tonight, Steven Colbert has taken shots at Bush. Right now, I wish I still watched Saturday Night Live. Everybody talked about the beginning of SNL with Al Gore in a reality where he is President. In this reality, he won the 2000 election over George W. Bush. I only read about it on the blogs such as Daily Kos. During the course of the sketch he reflects on his years as President and what he accomplished. Since this is SNL, much of this is joking. He takes quite a few stabs at Bush. Why not? Everybody else does. Finding out about this has made me reflect on what this world would have been like had Al Gore become President in 2000. There have been those who would have compared it to the West Wing. Whatever the truth is, it would be very different. 9/11 or no 9/11, the dialogue would have been very different. I honestly believe that there would have been no talk from a Gore Whitehouse about treachery among those who disagreed with what he was doing. There wouldn't be a PATRIOT ACT and the degree of illegal invasion of privacy that Bush has engaged in. Nor do I believe that we would have spent the last 3 years in Iraq while looking down the barrell of going to Iran. While there would have been some problems with the economy, I doubt that we would have had nearly the crises that we have seen with people falling off of unemployment rolls. We might even be starting to ween ourselves off of oil. While I might be exaggerating there, it is possible. I can't honestly speak to every point on things that have been going wrong over the last six years, but I can tell you one thing. It would not be like this. I guess with the end of The West Wing, one needs to indulge in some fantasy. One where we have a competent government. 3 years is too long to wait. If Al Gore decides to run for President in 2008, I could get behind him. Though, Feingold is another possible contender for me. But January 20, 2009 is so far off for me.
